The Rodrigo Melo Franco de Andrade Award has been granted by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (Iphan) since 1987, in recognition of actions to preserve Brazil's cultural heritage which, due to their originality, importance or exemplary nature, deserve to be recorded, publicized and recognized. In 2005, the Portinari Project received the award for the publication of the Catálogo Raisonné de Candido Portinari.
