Description
Composition in black and white. Lines defining contours and shading setting volume. In the center of the composition, figure of Jesus standing, 3/4 facing left, wearing robe with wide sleeves and well woman sitting, leaning against her legs. The head of Jesus is slightly upward, has open arms, and the on the right is more or less stretched forward and the on the left stretched down next to the body and on the right foot wearing sandals. To the right of the composition, woman sitting in front, leaning against the leg of Jesus. Its trunk is covered half, lowered head and on the left hand on the chin. Suggests using long dress and kind of cap. Might background.

Portinari did this work during his studies at the Escola Nacional de Belas Artes / ENBA based on Rodolfo Bernardellis sculpture Cristo e a Adúltera (1878-1879), from the collection of the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes, Rio de Janeiro.
