Description
Composition in tones earthy, ochre, white, gray and black. Smooth texture. Black woman and child, against the background of steps in three planes. The three steps form three horizontal bands, occupying the entire width of the composition. On the left half of the first step, woman sitting in front, hands in her lap and her bare feet slightly turned inward. It has coarse features, short black hair and wears white long sleeve dress, up to the ankles. On the right, near the center, in the same step which is sitting the other figure, girl standing 3/4 turned to the left, represented in small proportions and bulging belly. Clothes loose white clothing, to the ankles, with the skirt forming wedges bar. Behind the two figures, two steps giving idea of perspective. The part that represents the height of the steps is clearer and is divided by regular vertical lines forming rectangles. White band on the horizon height and dark sky. Might falling from the left.
