Description
Composition in ochre, earthy, blue, white, red and black. Smooth and rough texture. It depicts a group of migrants in desert landscape against blue sky. The characters of the scene in the composition are as follows: a core group of three black women; a child in front, on the left; a man behind, on the left, and another figure behind on the right. In the center of the composition, black woman of bulky shapes sitting on crate, her body slightly turned to the right and head 3/4 facing the left. She has shoulder-length curly hair, coarse facial features, poorly defined, arms are resting on her lap and her bare feet slightly apart. She wears a white dress with red polka dots, long sleeves and shin-length. Beside her, on the left and a little further back, a fatter woman with only suggested facial features, sitting on the floor, facing front, with head turned to the left and arms in front of her. Across the central figure in the same direction of the latter, another woman sitting on the floor on her back with both arms raised. Ahead of the group, on the left, child figure sitting on the floor, with no defined facial features. On the bottom on the right, blue chest of tinplate. In the background, on the left, man standing with his back facing left and on the right, another figure sitting on the floor, facing forward, without facial definition. Ground suggesting sand extending to the horizon, with the shadows of the people projected on the right. More vivid blue sky clearing down, giving an effect of light behind the three central figures.
