Composition in black tones, white and ochre. Few contour lines, predominantly shaded, smoky and quick strokes. man figure on ochre background. The pictured 3/4 is facing right, half-length. Has gray hair represented by shading in black with touches of white, short, smooth, split on the left and hairstyles to the right. White chalk touches the forehead wrinkles suggest. Brows and eyes indicated by light shading, nose represented by line and shaded, short mustache, thin lips closed, gray beard and represented on the right ear. Wears kind of coat or jacket with rounded lapel, double-breasted front, white shirt with a high collar, black tie and suggestion. Stocky, broad-shouldered, like being fat. Ochre background determined by the tone of the paper.

General Info
Work commissioned by a group of friends, who gave it as a gift to the sitters daughter. The work was based on a photograph taken in 1923 in Santos, São Paulo. In the photograph, however, the person is in almost 3/4 left profile.
