Notes Collection
In 1958, Cláudio Goulart de Andrade owned a Paisagem de Petrópolis, by Batista da Costa, and a Paisagem, by Rodolfo Amoedo, both of which had dried out. To treat them, he contacted Rosinha Leão, who worked with Portinari in the atelier in Leme. Portinari saw and liked the work by Batista da Costa and proposed an exchange; the owner accepted, requesting a work with a scarecrow. Portinari made this work with its background, a country landscape with mountains in the background, reminiscent of the landscape by Batista da Costa.
