Description
Composition in dark tones of earthy, gray, black, green, blue, red, violet and ochre, rose and white. Resulting rough texture of the support itself. St. Francis of Assisi It depicts talking to the birds in arid lanscape. In the foreground on the right, facing San Francisco feet 3/4 on the left and face slightly raised. Have creased forehead, large dark eyes turned to the left, aquiline nose and wide at the tip, closed lips, beard and mustache. wears cassock in earthy tone with hood covering his head, five string violet tone and sandals with straps on fingers. His arms are bent at the elbows and straight forward with outstretched hands looking up the palms of which on the left there is a perched blue bird. Ground with undergrowth in several color shades, some flowers and stones. The center and on the right of center, nine birds dark red beak, profile to the right, resting on the floor, facing San Francisco, lined up two by two, one after the other, in parallel perspective. To the left of center, ox skull with bird perched on it. On the left, six aligned pitas, two by two, also in perspective and coconut. In heaven, the center, six birds flying from the front, two by two. The bottom line of the horizon and sky in "degrade" from white to dark blue at the top of the composition.

Work executed to decorate a living room wall in the home of Portinaris parents in Brodowski, SP. The house where the artists parents lived, along with the work, was expropriated by the São Paulo state government in 1969 and transformed into a museum in 1970.
