Historical Info
At one of the Thursday night gatherings at the home of journalist Álvaro Moreyra which took place in the 1930s, Portinari wanted to do a portrait of filmmaker Mário Peixoto. As the filmmaker did not want to sit for it, Portinari did a portrait of the photographer Jorge de Castro instead. Others present at these gatherings were pianist Brutus Pedreira, painter Di Cavalcanti, Banco do Brasil employee Carlos Prado de Oliveira and actress Alzira Alves.
