Historical Info
Antonio Bento tells the story of this drawing: "... I was able [in 1927], after much insistence, to get Portinari to paint a more modern picture. He did a woman’s head with an elongated neck, basically in the style of Modigliani. Actually, this would be his first essentially modern work. I went to Natal in September, and when I got back, I couldn’t find it anymore. It’s a shame it was lost: now, its historical significance would be enormous, a milestone in Portinari’s artistic life" [LV 4, p.37].
