Historical info
At the invitation of Itamaraty, Portinari began creating a model of the War and Peace panels to decorate the UN headquarters building in New York in 1952. Building designed by Le Corbusier, which Oscar Niemeyer worked on. The themes chosen for the panels were war and peace, a synthesis of the concerns and work of the United Nations. In September 1957, the War and Peace panels were inaugurated at the UN headquarters.
