The Marshal Cordeiro de Farias Medal of Merit and its diploma are intended to reward members of the War College (ESG), former combatants, national and foreign personalities who have distinguished themselves by their relevant services, and national or foreign military organizations and civilian institutions that deserve special homage from the War College. In 2010, Professor João Candido Portinari was awarded for his work leading the Portinari Project.
