Description
Composition in tones earthy, green, gray, ochre, white, blue, black and red. Smooth texture with marked brushstrokes. Night scene of boy riding a horse and man holding the animal, close to two buildings and barren landscape in the background. In the foreground, center, dark horse, in profile to the left; it has the head lifted, tail up and right forepaw folded up. Mounted on the animal is a black boy wearing light clothing with his right arm stretched upward. On the left, in front of the horse, man in profile standing to the right. He wears white clothes, has no defined facial features, legs are apart and arms raised holding the reins of the animal standing with head back. On the left and on the right of the composition, two constructions with narrow vertical gaps suggest windows arranged symmetrically. The buildings are not very high, but seem to have three floors and top with visible roofing. The floor where are the man and horse stand is flat and dark, clearing toward the bottom. On the horizon we see a few hills; the sky is clear, darkening up and coming to a deep green on the top quarter; in the center, a circle in ochre appears to be the moon.
