Title
Jesus Falls the First Time, Third Station of the Via Crucis
Description
Composition in light shades of roses, blue and gray, earthy, black, green and red. Smooth texture. Figures represented with significant and deliberated deformed expressions.. It depicts the first fall of Jesus with the cross on his back. In the center, Jesus kneeling in profile to right, bent under the weight of the huge cross over his left shoulder. He has long hair, facial features and suggested beard and long tunic in gray tones. The cross is represented in rose tones, behind it, two curved soldiers toward the central figure can be seen. The one on the left had the left arm stretched, pointing the path ahead and the one on the right has the body half-covered by the cross and holds a spear that is supported on the ground. Both wear short tunics. Ground in rose with shaded areas and light blue background with geometrical areas in light gray, close to the figures. The contrast of light and dark tones accentuate the drama of the scene.
