Title
Jesus Meets His Mother, Fourth Station of the Via Crucis
Description
Composition in light shades of blue, ochre, rose, green, white, gray, earthy, orange and red tones. Rough and thick texture in the foreground detail. Figures represented with significant and deliberated deformed expressions. It depicts Jesus meeting with his mother. In the foreground, Mary and Jesus kneeling face to face. On the left, Maria, in profile to right, having her fallen son, in front of her, fell under the weight of the cross. Mary has long hair, only one eye represented in the contoured profile, the left arm raised holding what appears to be a white handkerchief and the right arm extended toward the son. She wears a long tunic in dark shades of gray. On the right, Jesus is looking at his mother with the cross resting on his right shoulder. From his face a few drops of blood are dripping. He wears a long tunic green and white tones. In the background, in the center, between the two figures in the foreground, a soldier facing forward with both arms to the right holding a whip with long strips and the gesture of who is whipping. Floor in shades of rose and gray and light blue and ochre background. The contrast of light and dark tones accentuate the drama of the scene. .
