Jesus Dies on the Cross, Twelfth Station of the Via Crucis
Description
Composition in light shades of blue, ochre, rose, white, lilac, gray, red and earthy tones. Smooth texture in the background and thick with marked strokes and use of spatula in the white and the hair of the characters. Figures represented with significant and deliberated deformed expressions. It depicts Jesus dying on the cross. In the center, in front of Jesus crucified, with his head tiltet to the right over the shoulder and a white cloth covering her body at the hips. On the left, kneeling woman in profile to the right at the foot of the cross and on the right, two kneeling figures in profile, facing each other, crying, embraced. Plain background with bluish tone; on the left, stuck on a vertical beam, there is the suggestion of another rucified figure. The strong contrast of light and dark tones accentuates the drama of the scene.
