Historical Info
In a newspaper article, caricaturist Alvarus said: "... shortly after the Revolution of 1930, the poet carelessly sold the painting to an artist friend for a ridiculous amount. Soon afterward, he regretted it and offered to buy it back for two or three times the price he had sold it, but in vain. He always regretted his imprudence. Some time later, the new owner needed a small favor from the poet: to be introduced to an important friend of Olegário’s, which would resolve an important issue for the solicitor, one in which he was keenly interested. Whatever the reason, imagine the surprise of the poet of ‘Cigarras’ to get Portinari’s nude back as a gift" [PR 4852].
